Review: The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon (King Deluxe Room, Tokyo Tower View)

I stayed at Tokyo EDITION Toranomon in March 2022. I booked the "EDITION STARS-CATION" plan from Classic Travel, a travel website specializing in 5-star hotels.

What is the Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon?

Although it is a Category 8 hotel, the most luxurious in the Marriott family, its concept is based on a simple design that differs from the image of luxury hotels as luxurious and stately.

Access

The hotel is directly connected to Kamiyacho Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.

It takes about 10 minutes by cab from Tokyo Station. The hotel's porte-cochere is underground, not above ground. Compared to other hotels such as The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo and The Okura Tokyo nearby, the hotel is not well known yet, and cab drivers may not be able to understand the hotel name alone (in that case, they should rely on the navigation system attached to the cab to proceed).

Rooms

The rooms have a simple, relaxed atmosphere, with a wooden base and white furniture.

The bed
A table near the window
The desk

Compared to other hotels, the guest rooms at Tokyo EDITION Toranomon give the impression that many things are naturally hidden. For example, the wall around the minibar, while also a wall, is actually a cupboard (the handle is not visible, so it is hard to notice). The closet is next to the minibar, the refrigerator is above the minibar, and the glasses used in the minibar and snacks and safe are below the minibar.

Mini bar

In the photo above, you can see a building under construction (Aman Residence) outside the window, but if you get closer to the window, you can also see Tokyo Tower.

View of the pool

Photography while other guests were present was expressly prohibited, so please click here for photos of the pool.

This pool was lit up under the surface and the water was glowing light blue. It is quite fantastic.

There were 8 beach chairs by the pool for 8 people. The Corona Disaster limits the number of people entering at the same time to 8 (reservations required), so it's not like you can't sit down. Water and swim caps are also available poolside. There is also a Jacuzzi at the far end of the pool (not visible from the picture).

I thought the pool was a bit compact for a hotel of this class. Of note, this pool is deep, 1.35m to 1.4m deep! Considering that the depth of a normal hotel pool is 1.1m to 1.2m, it is 10cm to 30cm deeper than usual, and if you are a petite adult, the surface of the water will be below your face, so it is not suitable for children. Even tall adults may be surprised at the depth of the water when they first enter, so be sure to enter slowly while holding onto the handrail from the stairs.

The Jacuzzi is also deep. The Jacuzzi in other hotels may be as deep as three or four flights of stairs, but this Jacuzzi has six flights of stairs. The staircase gets narrower as you go up, so if you are new to the Jacuzzi, there is a possibility that you may step off the staircase (I did step off the staircase…). (I did, however, because I could not see the water under my feet due to the bubbles in the Jacuzzi). Be sure to hold the handrail and check your footing as you go down the stairs one step at a time.

Meals

Because of the lack of a club lounge and the fact that I got the in-hotel credit as described below, I ate more meals in the hotel than usual (lol).

Dinner

I ordered a light three-course meal for dinner, since I would order an evening meal later anyway. In addition to this, there is also a five-course menu, and of course you can order a la carte or drinks.

Incidentally, I planned to have dinner at The Blue Room on the 31st floor. But when I arrived at the hotel without a reservation, the Blue Room was booked fully. In that case, it seems that a table in the Lobby Bar space may be used (in this case, the menu is the same as The Blue Room).

In that case, if you are lucky, you can enjoy the view like this (although the Blue Room has a better chance of seeing Tokyo Tower, so I recommend making a reservation for dinner at The Blue Room on weekends when it is expected to be crowded).

Beautiful view of the Tokyo Tower

Evening meal in in-room dining

I feel like I have ordered a clubhouse sandwich for comparison on my recent hotel stays, but since Tokyo Edition Toranomon did not have a clubhouse sandwich, I ordered a brioche sandwich. As usual, it comes with french fries. The fries are quite fat.

Breakfast

Breakfast at The Blue Room was included as a benefit of the EDITION STARS-CATION plan (see below).

EDITION STARS-CATION Plan with Privileged Lodging

We previously introduced the Marriott STARS plan. This plan offers benefits such as room upgrades and free breakfast regardless of the hotel membership rank or credit card you have. In fact, I am a Silver member of Marriott Bonvoy and my main credit card is Amex Green, so I usually do not get these benefits.

I found a plan called "EDITION STARS-CATION" which is even more powerful than Marriott STARS, which is just as powerful. This plan includes the following benefits

  • Complimentary breakfast for two adults
  • Early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability
  • Room upgrade (upgrade at time of reservation)
  • 200 USD worth of in-hotel credit (some restrictions on what you can spend)

Normally, this type of room upgrade is subject to availability on the day of your stay, so you don't know if you will be upgraded until you check in on the day of your stay. In the case of EDITION STARS-CATION, however, you know which room you will be upgraded to when you make your reservation. If you book a Deluxe Room (the least expensive room with no view of Tokyo Tower) on the EDITION STARS-CATION plan, you will be upgraded to a Deluxe Room with a view of Tokyo Tower.

And while Marriott STARS gives you 100 USD worth of credit, the EDITION STARS-CATION gives you 200 USD worth of credit. With this amount of credit, you can easily order a course for dinner and drink a lot of alcohol. This hotel does not have a club lounge, so you are more likely to use the restaurant than in other hotels, which may explain the high demand for hotel credits.

EDITION STARS-CATION can be booked through the Classic Travel website. (If this plan is not available, please contact the MIA office for details. (If this plan is not available, Marriott STARS or virtuoso plans are recommended.)
